Common Surgeries & Descriptions

TPLO/TTA
This is the procedure of choice for large breed dogs with the diagnosis of a Cranial Cruciate Ligament rupture. It is also used for some smaller breed dogs. These surgeries change the function of the stifle so the pet no longer needs the ruptured ligament. The tibia is cut and manipulated using a special formula. A bone plate and screws are used to hold the osteotomy in place while it heals.

Extracapsular ACL Repair
This procedure is used following the diagnosis of a Cranial Cruciate Ligament rupture in small dogs. A special suture is put in place of the ruptured ligament.

Patella Luxation Repair
This procedure is performed following the diagnosis of a Patella Luxation. A number of different techniques are used to keep the patella in place so it no longer luxates.

FHO/TPO
These procedures are performed following the diagnosis of a number of defects of the hip joint, including hip dysplasia, traumatic hip luxations and femoral head/neck disease. For an FHO, the ball part of the joint is removed, relieving the pet of any bone grinding discomfort, and the muscles and tendons are left to form a false joint.

Joint Arthrotomy (OCD)
This procedure is performed following diagnosis of OCD in a joint. The defect of the joint is removed.

Fracture Repairs
Depending on the type of the fracture and its location, a number of techniques are used to facilitate its repair. These techniques include plates, pins, rods, screws and external fixators.

Perineal Urethrostomy (PU)
This procedure provides a permanent shorter and wider opening in the urethra of male cats to prevent episodes of urinary tract obstruction.

Laryngeal Tieback
This procedure is performed following the diagnosis of laryngeal paralysis. The laryngeal fold is permanently sutured open to keep the affected fold from collapsing.

Mass Removal
Most veteranarians are well equipped to remove many masses found on pets. Our surgeons are here to provide assistance in removing extremely invasive masses or tumors.
